LSD

LSD, Lysergic acid diethylamide (Acid, Drop, Dots, Lucy) is made from a fungus called ergot.

It is usually found as small squares of paper or card, often with pictures on. It can be found as tiny pellets which are called micro dots and also as a liquid.

How it is used

LSD can be:

  • Swallowed if paper or micro dot
  • Dropped into a drink or straight onto tongue when in liquid form
  • Extremely powerful hallucinogenic drug, causing distorted view of objects and reality when taken, this experience is called a ‘trip’ or ‘tripping’
  • The experience can last for several hours, with a max of roughly 20 hours
  • The trips can either be good or bad experience — there is no way of controlling this
  • Sometimes people take small amounts of LSD regularly, this is called ‘micro-dosing’

How it feels

Highs

  • Euphoria and energised
  • Visual hallucinations and increased sensory sensitivity

Lows

  • Terrifying visual hallucinations and terrors
  • Confused, disorientated, overwhelmed
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Risky behaviour due to hallucinations
  • Distortion of reality and delusions

Risks and the law

Risks

  • Risk of endangering self and harm due to delusions, can lead to significant harm or worse
  • Mental health can be severely affected, and can set off an issue not previously noticed
  • Can cause psychosis, flashbacks, night terrors
  • No evidence of any physical harm that LSD causes however if cut with other drugs these could potentially cause significant issues

The law

  • Class A drug
  • Possession can lead to up to 7 years in prison and/or unlimited fine
  • Intent to supply can lead to life imprisonment and/or unlimited fine
